Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs, are countries’ self-defined national climate pledges under the Paris Agreement, detailing what they will do to help meet the global goal to pursue 1.5°C, adapt to climate impacts and ensure sufficient finance to support these efforts.

Responding to climate change involves two possible approaches: reducing and stabilising the levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (“mitigation”) and adapting to the climate change already in the pipeline (“adaptation”).
COPs (Conference of the Parties):
Annual meetings where countries discuss and coordinate climate-related actions, Negotiate agreements to address climate change's global impact, Showcase progress, set goals, and address emerging challenges. The IPCC operates under the joint auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change):
International treaty guiding global response to climate change. Provides the framework for COPs and climate negotiations.
IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change):
Scientific body assessing climate change related scientific knowledge. Produces assessment reports on impacts, adaptation, and mitigation. Informs policymakers with unbiased, evidence-based information.
