Take stock of your existing monitoring and evaluation practices:

• What data do you currently collect?

• How do you collect and manage it?

• What works well and what doesn't?

• What gaps do you see?

2. Examine a Recent Evaluation

Choose a recent program evaluation and analyze:

• Methods used and their effectiveness

• Quality of data collected

• Strength of conclusions drawn

• How findings were used

3. Draft Learning Questions

Identify 3-5 key questions about your work that you'd like MEL to help answer. Consider:

• Program effectiveness

• Implementation challenges

• Unexpected outcomes

• Areas for improvement

4. Map Your Stakeholders

List your key stakeholders and their information needs:

• What do they want to know?

• How do they prefer to receive information?

• How often do they need updates?
